PROFESSIONAL SKILLS & CAREER PATHS
So far, my MA, Camberwell College of Art, University of the Arts London: Sculpture, has given me the motivation to develop as an artist, both theoretically and practically. It provides a creative environment to develop further my critical thinking and practical, professional, methodological and research skills. Through various tutorials, reviews, and conversations with established artists, I deepened my research and thinking about my material in a more conceptual direction. In addition, the necessary writing work we have to do (such as the artist statement) has dramatically helped me improve how I talk about my art practice.
First, I presented my first sculpture work in Unit 3 at Camberwell College of Art's Wilson Road campus space. This is a collective MA Fine Art student exhibition organized by Camberwell College of Art. Although the overall space of the campus is large and the location is good, most of the space is suitable for teaching. The works inside are divided into different rooms, which is relatively separated. The connection between the works is not strong enough, and the result is unsatisfactory.On the one hand, the curatorial work is not very good. On the other hand, there is no more communication among the surrounding artists (the artists are still familiar with each other in the campus exhibition). Therefore, my work in that exhibition was more of an experiment for my next work. Nevertheless, I have received interesting feedback and encouraging comments from many in the audience and other artists, fellow students, and especially my instructors.
Secondly, the final works of my third unit have just finished the exhibition in SPG/Dilston Gallery, which is very successful. SPG itself is a gallery with a special personality. The works exhibited in this gallery are highly experimental, which corresponds to the uniqueness of the space.
During the exhibition, I met several graduate students studying Chinese history and literature from SOAS, University of London. During the exchange, I learned that a large part of their current research on Chinese social folklore is about marriage. I am very pleased to receive the invitation and hope that I can talk about my experience of working and studying at Camberwell College of Art in the SOAS course workshop. Through my practical communication with different audiences, I can lay the foundation for a wider range of art activities in London and in China.

In the studio resources of the college, in addition to metal
cutting/welding/wood laser engraving and so on, I spent more time expanding my ceramics skills. Especially in the production of works in the last semester, I conducted many experiments to test the changes of different glazes and ceramic soils under different temperatures and gained many unique experiences. As the final exhibition of Unit3 came to a close, I began to explore some new fragile materials, such as glass. I have communicated in-depth with artists of MA Designer Maker and conducted experiments in the studio of Block B. According to him, a glass workshop in Birmingham is convenient for material melting, casting, cutting and so on, which provides more possibilities for development after graduation.
Regarding art career planning, I recently applied for a pop-up store with art exhibition space mentioned in Unit2. For this application, I submitted my portfolio, artist statement, resume and work proposal spanning about two years to improve the plan of building this space in the follow-up cooperation. After various contacts, I was finally recruited by Nanning College in Nanning City, Guangxi Province, China, through open recruitment. After communicating with the course leader of the college, They are currently setting up a green screen studio with a capacity of about 150 people, and providing equipment and staff for my follow-up work, etc., which also means that I can further participate in a creative community where ideas and different artistic practices are shared and challenged.
Communication with the professor of semiotics at Sichuan University mentioned above, and his suggestion is to dissect artists' works from the perspective of communication theory based on the media of new media. As for the PhD degree on semiotic principles in the future, the detailed research plan is still in preparation. Initially, I want to contact more extensive aspects, including artificial intelligence art, metaverse, crypto art, etc. In the process of continuous in-depth understanding, the research direction will become more detailed and focused.
